The potential costs pain me but I really just need something that will reliably work for the next year and won't require me to completely change everything I've been doing. r-devel (R 4.1) macOS builds with native ARM binaries: Install homebrew by running the one command they list on their website ( Run the command brew install r from your Mac's Terminal EDIT: RStudio daily build and newer includes a fix for this step, so you can skip it. These steps can also be used on an Intel Mac just leave out the parts annotated with (M1 Only).
